China, Kangxi period (1662 – 1722)

A pair of lacquered dishes with mother-of-pearl inlay (burgauté) from the Kangxi period, both depicting a Chinese garden scene: a lady and her maid. The pearl is a Haliotis shell, the colours are varied but carefully chosen: the leaves of the trees are green, the trunks are purple, the ladies’ dresses are a mixture of blue, yellow, pink and green. Some parts of the dishes are gold. Signed by the master on the reverse.
