Fire-gilt bronze figure of Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, seated in padmasana on a double lotus pedestal, his hands resting in dhyana mudra and holding the vessel of immortality (kalasha). The figure is richly adorned with a crown (mukuta), necklaces, armlets, and bracelets, and displays a serene, meditative expression.
The sculpture reflects a refined synthesis of Nepalese Newar craftsmanship and Chinese imperial court style, characteristic of early Ming-period works produced by Nepalese artists in Beijing. Distinctive Nepalese features include the spiral-shaped earrings and the vajra finial atop the ushnisha, while the elegant proportions and facial modeling reveal Chinese imperial influence.
The warm, well-preserved fire-gilding enhances the finely cast details of the figure and lotus base, making this a compelling example of early 15th-century Sino-Himalayan Buddhist sculpture.
