The jade depicts a boy from the Yuan-Ming dynasty.
The 8 cm carving fits easily into the palm of the hand, and the maker has consciously followed the shape of the pebble. The rust-brown spots of the jade can be seen on the lotus flower held above the head and on the back of the boy.

In Chinese culture, the boy symbolises good fortune, prosperity and blessings, and embodies rebirth, new beginnings and the continuity of life.
